YARMOUTH, N.S. – The Yarmouth Mariners will head into the games this weekend in first place in both the overall MHL and their Eastlink South Division.
The Mariners have 31 points in their division, trailed by Amherst with 26 points and Truro with 24. The Ramblers and Bearcats face off on Thursday, Nov. 8.
Sitting atop the Eastlink North Division are the Summerside Western Capitals with 28 points.
On the national stage, the Yarmouth Mariners were ranked #12 in the CJHL Top 20 across Canada. Summerside came in at #7.
This weekend the Mariners hosts Valley on Friday, Nov. 9 at 7:30 p.m. and Pictou at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11.
The Yarmouth Mariners added two more wins to their season last weekend with a 7-3 Nov. 3 win at home versus the Miramichi Timberwolves and a 4-1 Nov. 2 win on the road versus the Valley Wildcats.
And then another a third win during a rare Tuesday road trip in Pictou where they defeated the Crushers 5-1 on Nov. 6.
YARMOUTH 7 – MIRAMICHI 3
Logan Timmons led the Mariners with four goals during the Saturday night, Nov. 3, home game against Miramichi that saw the Mariners with a 2-1 lead after the first period, a 5-1 lead after the second and 7-3 final. Also scoring goals were Andrew Martell, Miguel Poirier and Connor Peveril.
In net, Tyler Caseley stopped 21 of 24 shots for the Mariners. His opponents across the ice faced a combined 39 Mariners shots on net. Tanner Somers made 23 saves on 28 shots and Tommy Rolin, brought in for the third period, made nine saves on 11 shots.
YARMOUTH 4 – VALLEY 1
The previous evening the Mariners had a 4-1 final over the Valley Wildcats. The Mariners’ Brady Crossley had the lone game goal in the first period and his brother Brett Crossley extended the Mariners lead to 3-0 in the second before Valley scored its only goal of the game. Connor Peveril rounded out the scoring in the third period. In net for Yarmouth Alec MacVicar made 15 saves on 16 shots. Valley’s goaltender Liam MacDonald was considerably busier making 36 saves on 40 Mariners shots.
YARMOUTH 5 – PICTOU 1
The Mariners outscored and outshot the Crushers in Pictou on Tuesday, Nov. 6. Connor Peveril scored both of Yarmouth’s first-period goals, with Brett Crossley and Logan Timmons scoring in the second, putting Yarmouth up 4-0 before Pictou answered with a goal of its own. Noah McMullin added the last Mariners’ goal nearly midway in the third.
In net for Yarmouth Tyler Caseley stopped 26 of 27 shots. In net for Pictou Andew MacLeod made 36 saves on 41 shots.
PINK JERSEYS
The Mariners once again wore their pink jerseys at their Nov. 3 home game, as their annual Pink in the Rink initiative winded down. Money raised through the auction of the jerseys supports the Dr. Edwin Janke Cancer Care Centre at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. When the bidding ended on Nov. 5, the final tally was $7,626 raised in bids on player jerseys and donations on a jersey honouring Yarmouth resident Sandy Dennis who is battling cancer.
