Riverview Royals advance to NSSAF girls’ volleyball provincial semifinals with 2-1 record

Sydney Academy posts 0-3 record in the round robin

SYDNEY MINES, N.S. — The Riverview Royals will have an opportunity to advance to the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation Division 1 girls’ volleyball provincials on Saturday.

The Royals will play the CEC Cougars of Truro in the tournament semifinals at 11:30 a.m. at Memorial High School in Sydney Mines.

Riverview advanced to the semifinals after posting a 2-1 record on opening day of the provincial championship.

The Coxheath school opened the tournament with a win over Park View Education Centre of Bridgewater with scores of 22-25, 25-18 and 15-12.

The Royals, who have seven graduating players on the team, defeated Halifax West High School 25-14, 25-17, before losing 25-18, 25-19 to Charles P. Allen High School of Bedford.

Meanwhile, the Sydney Academy Wildcats posted an 0-3 record in the tournament round robin.

The Wildcats were defeated 25-13, 25-16 by CEC, before dropping a decision 25-22, 25-17, to Horton High School of Wolfville.

Sydney Academy finished the round robin with a loss to Lockview High School of Fall River, 25-18, 25-16.

The Wildcats will complete their tournament Saturday at 8:30 a.m. when they play Park View in a battle of the fourth-place teams in their respective pools.

The other semifinal match will feature Charles P. Allen against Horton at 10 a.m.

- Charles P. Allen over Park View 20-25, 25-13, 15-8

- CEC over Horton 24-26, 25-15, 15-6

Score results from the Division 2 boys’ and girls’ provincials as well as Division 3 girls were not available at press time.
