Cape Breton Capers set to host Saint Mary's Huskies at Sullivan Field House Saturday

SYDNEY, N.S. — The two Cape Breton Capers basketball teams are set to return to action following a six-week break from Atlantic University Sport conference play.

Both the CBU women’s and men’s teams hit the court Saturday when they play host to the Saint Mary’s Huskies at the Sullivan Field House. The women tipoff at 4 p.m., while the men’s match is slated for 8 p.m. Both games are worth four points in the standings.

The Capers women resume play on a two-game winning streak that followed five consecutive losses to start the season. They sport a 2-5 record that includes one four-point win and sit in fifth position with six points. Saint Mary’s (5-2) is the exact opposite having won five in a row after losing its first two games of the season.

Mackenzee Ryan and Monique Calliste lead the Capers offensively with 20.1 and 15.3 points-per-game respectively. Audrey Rankin leads the squad in rebounds with 7.3 boards per game.

Memorial (6-2) leads the AUS women’s basketball standings with 14 points .

In men’s action, both the Capers and the Huskies have 3-4 records and both lost their only four-point match so far this season. The defending champion Dalhousie Tigers lead the conference with a 6-0 record.

Cape Breton, which has gone to overtime in three of its seven AUS matches thus far this season, is led by Osman Omar and his 19 points per-game-average. Paul Watson has an 11.4 ppg average, while leading the squad with an average of 10.1 rebounds per contest. Watson also leads the Capers in game time with an average minutes played of 33.7 per game.
