Telegram Sports The title hopes of the Memorial Sea-Hawks women’s basketball get their next test this weekend in Wolfville, N.S., where the Sea-Hawks take on two-time defending AUS champions Acadia Axewomen With and 8-2 record, a five-game winning streak and coming off a pair of four-point wins over the Dalhousie Tigers last weekend at the Field House in St. John’s, the first—place Sea-Hawks are 10-points up on UPEI and Acadia, which beat Memorial in last year’s conference final. But both second-place teams have two games in hand on Memorial. The Sea-Hawks-Axewomen contests today and Sunday also feature a matchup between the two leading scorers in the conference, Memorial’s Haille Nickerson and Acadia’s Haley McDonald. The Memorial men (5-5) are also at Acadia this weekend to take on the Axemen (3-5). The second-place Sea-Hawks are looking to bounce back after two losses to Dalhousie last weekend in St. John’s, but they’ll have to do it with all-star Nathan Barker and starting guard Jason Thompson, who will be sidelined by injury for a second straight week, However, conference leading scorer Cole Long, who was also hurt and didn’t play against the Tigers, is ready to go.
