LIVERPOOL – On April 8, the Queens County Blades are planning a special afternoon filled with music and fun in support of the club’s skating programs.
Between 1 and 4 p.m. at the Liverpool Legion, guests will be treated to the music of five different bands, says Tanya Grant, member of the executive of the Queens County Blades Skating Club and part of the fundraising committee.
Musical guests include Dale Verge and Doin’ Country; Dave Lawson and the Country Jammers; Boe and the Boys; Harvest Moon; and Lillian Bruhum. Admission is just $5 per person.
Throughout the afternoon, Grant says there will also be a silent auction, bake sale and a 50/50 draw. They hope to raise over $2,000 that will go towards supporting the club throughout the year. The organization offers learn to skate programs for the community to children three years and up with all levels of skating abilities, from beginners to gold level and competitive, she says.
Queens County Blades, Grant adds, offers a skating program year-round. With the expenses of ice time, coaching fees and the other expenses that occur in running a club, the Queens County Blades need to raise money to be sustainable as a non-for-profit organization.
“To keep registration fees affordable for our skaters and ensure we have adequate funds to run the club, we need to fundraise frequently,” says Grant.
Another way to support the club and its skaters is by attending the end-of-year ice show happening on April 15 from 2 pm to 3:30 p.m. at the Queens Place Emera Centre.
“There, the children will exhibit their skills and hard work from over the past year,” says Grant.
It’s always a wonderful afternoon for the whole family, she says. Entrance is by donation at the door.
