HALIFAX, N.S. —

It didn't take Keith Getson long to shake any nerves he was feeling playing in the Memorial Cup.

The Halifax Mooseheads pivot went into the corner while killing a penalty three minutes into the opening game a week ago today.

The collision with Prince Albert Raiders defenceman Max Martin sent Getson soaring into the glass.

“It was a good start to the Memorial Cup,” Getson said, noting he joked with the guys once he got back to the bench, “‘There’s no nerves left now, kind of got them all knocked out of me’.”

Getson landed on Martin but, to no surprise to Charlottetown Islanders fans who watched Getson for the past 4 ½ seasons, quickly bounced back up and rejoined the play.

“I didn't want to make it a five-on-three situation,” he said.

He was not sure who took the brunt of the hit, but said he came out OK.

“My helmet came up and I hit my nose on the glass, so oddly enough the only thing that really hurt was my nose.”

The hit made Getson an internet sensation with the video being viewed more than 130,000 times on YouTube.

“It was pretty cool to go viral a bit there,” he said Thursday.

Teammate Samuel Asselin told him he was famous.

“It’s not really the way I pictured to be famous, but I’ll take it,” Getson said.
