A red, teary-eyed Brad Marchand stared at the floor as he talked about the Boston Bruins’ Game 7 loss in the Stanley Cup Finals to the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday night.

“They just took our lifetime dream from us,” Marchand said in a post-game interview with reporters in the Bruins dressing room.

The Blues took a 4-1 victory over the Bruins to win their first Stanley Cup.

“We had a lot of opportunities, especially early, couple really good looks in the second. We just needed more and it didn’t happen,” Marchand said.

The Bruins forward nodded silently when asked if it was the most painful loss of his career.

“I’ll never get over this,” Marchand said.

“Still not over ’13 yet. This hurts more than that.”

But Marchand, known for his antics, wasn’t getting much sympathy on social media.

“Man, this shot of Brad Marchand is heartbreaking. Just kidding!” Deadspin posted with a photo of the forward crying on Twitter.

“The St Louis Blues win and Brad Marchand is crying. It’s like winning 2 Stanley Cups on the same night,” another tweeted.

While the crying gifs and photos rolled in on social media, some stuck up for the Hammonds Plains native.

“Love him or hate him, I felt sad seeing Brad Marchand cry last night, He is a great hockey player and he is one of ours,” Gloria McCluskey tweeted.
