SYDNEY, N.S. — Cape Breton Regional Police are searching for a suspect in an alleged shooting on Tuesday evening.

According to a police release issued this morning, officers were called to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital at approximately 6:30 p.m. where several individuals had arrived, including one man with an apparent gun shot wound to his arm.

His injuries are non-life-threatening but he was later transported to Halifax for further treatment.

The police investigation indicates there was an earlier altercation in Whitney Pier, among a group of individuals in two separate vehicles, all known to each other.

Investigators have seized the victim’s vehicle and are looking for the driver of the other vehicle, believed to be the suspect in the shooting. Anyone with further information about this incident is asked to contact police at 902-563-5151 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.

The Nova Scotia Health Authority confirmed in a news release the emergency department at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital was on lockdown Tuesday evening, right around the time of an incident on Townsend Street that saw multiple police officers responded to an apartment building.

The health authority said the lockdown was in place from 7-9:45 p.m. The lockdown was a precaution following an off-site incident that resulted in an individual being brought to the hospital for treatment.

The precautionary lockdown was put in place on the advice of local law enforcement officials, who had a presence on-site for the duration of the lockdown.
