KENTVILLE, N.S. — A 51-year-old man is dead after a crash involving an ambulance and another vehicle on Highway 101 near Kentville on Tuesday morning.
RCMP, Kentville firefighters and paramedics responded to the crash between exits 13 and 14 just after 7:45 a.m.
Roads were slushy at the time, and freezing rain and rain had been falling since late Monday night. RCMP said Tuesday afternoon that the westbound car went out of control and crossed into the path of the eastbound ambulance.
The two paramedics in the ambulance were taken to Valley Regional Hospital as a precaution and released, EHS spokeman Remo Zaccagna said in an emailed statement. He said the company is supporting the paramedics, and no other information was being released.
There were no patients in the ambulance at the time.
Fire trucks blocked the highway at both exits after the crash. RCMP spokeswoman Cpl. Lisa Croteau said the highway was closed until early afternoon while a collision analyst worked at the scene.
She said there had been some other collisions reported Tuesday on slick roads across the province.
