BERWICK, N.S. — A 35-year-old Waterville man is facing charges after RCMP determined that his blood-alcohol readings significantly exceeded the legal limit while he was operating a side-by-side with a young passenger along for the ride.

The vehicle was stopped during patrols conducted along the Harvest Moon Trail around 3 p.m. Oct. 13.

“Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer observed a male driver and a small child,” said Kings District RCMP spokesperson Const. Jeff Wilson in a prepared statement Oct. 18.

“The investigation determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol, resulting in breath tests confirming he was more than double the legal limit.”

The driver is facing two charges related to impaired operation of a conveyance. The charges will be dealt with in Kentville provincial court.

Kings District RCMP teamed up with conservation officers to conduct multiple patrols throughout Thanksgiving weekend.

“Officers were contacting ATVs as they encountered them to ensure the vehicles were being operated safely, with proper documentation and using proper safety equipment,” Wilson’s statement says.

“Kings District RCMP encourage ATV enthusiasts to operate in a safe, legal manner which provides for everyone's enjoyment while using the trail systems in Kings County,” he later adds.

Unsafe operation of an all-terrain vehicle can be reported to a local RCMP detachment by calling 1-800-803-RCMP (7267). In the case of an emergency, call 911.
