SYDNEY, N.S. — The Cape Breton Regional Municipality has hired a new director of fire and emergency services.

Michael Seth will take over the role officially Nov. 18.

“I look forward to working with the municipality, the Fire and Emergency Services department and the many community volunteers,” said Seth, in press release issued Monday by the municipality.

“I am grateful for this opportunity and will work with our partners on service levels, while ensuring our number one priority remains the health and safety of the public and first responders.”

Seth comes to the CBRM after having served as fire chief for the County of Brant in Ontario.

A member of the Six Nations of the Grand River (Tuscarora), Ont., Seth graduated from Alberta’s Lakeland College with a bachelor’s degree in applied business with a focus on emergency services. He is currently studying for a master’s degree in communication management.

Seth is a second-generation firefighter and was instrumental in the creation of the Six Nations Paramedic Services, serving as its inaugural manager.

He also held the position fire chief and community emergency management co-ordinator with the Six Nations Council.
