SYDNEY, N.S. — A Cape Breton Capers women's soccer player was named the U Sports rookie of the year on Wednesday in Victoria, B.C.
Alliyah Rowe of Kitchener, Ont., was given the honour during the U Sports awards ceremony in Victoria, B.C. prior to the start of the national soccer championship.
Rowe led the Atlantic University Sport in goals this season, notching 14 in her first year in the league. She also finished the year with 15 points, while being named the AUS rookie of the year, first team all-star, and the playoff most valuable player.
Rowe was also named to the U Sports first all-star team, along with fellow teammate Ciera Disipio.
Disipio was nominated for the U Sports player of the year, but Jenaya Robertson of Western Trinity captured the award.
Other major award winners include Dalhousie's Sydney Kenney (student-athlete community service award) and UQAM's Alexandre DaRocha (coach of the year).
