Three new Acadian ridings and one African Nova Scotia riding will be up for grabs in the next provincial election.

Justice Minister Mark Furey tabled the changes to the House of Assembly Act at Province House on Wednesday that will see the number of provincial seats jump to 55 from 51 to include Argyle, Clare, Richmond and Preston ridings.

The changes stem from recommendations in the Electoral Boundaries Commission’s  final report last April, calling on the province to create four “exceptional” seats that ensure Acadian and African Nova Scotians are more effectively represented in the House.
