AYLESFORD – Engines will roar and the mud will fly as spectators watch big rigs put on a muddy show this August.

The vehicles will be trying to get around the track at the Fox Mountain 4x4 Mud Sling event Aug. 11.

For the first time, Fox Mountain Campground on Aylesford Mountain is hosting a 4x4 mudsling event. Drivers of 4x4 trucks, Jeeps, buggy's, etc. will be classed according to tire size, to a maximum 52"tire, says event planner Kimberly Hingley. The fastest in each class will win a monetary prize, with the fastest overall winning a 10,000-pound winch from event sponsor, Kentville Chrysler Dodge.

Currently, the event is not open to ATVs or side-by-side vehicles, but Hingley says they are in the planning stages of possibly having a similar mudsling event for these type of off-road vehicles in the future.

Although this is the first year to host a mud sling competition, Hingley says the campground is no stranger to this type of event.

Each year Fox Mountain hosts numerous off-road events such as the Mid Valley ATV Jamboree, NSJC Jeep Jamboree, and Pirate Off Road Nation's Valley Invasion. Heidi Tupper, manager of the campground, enjoys these events and wanted to host one of her own.

Hingley says there is a small mud pit at the campground which is one of the main attractions at these off-road events.

“We thought with the increasing popularity of off-roading and the lack of mud track events, why not expand on the mud pit idea and make an event out of it for the community to enjoy?” she says.

To prepare for the event, back in April, Fox Mountain cleared a plot of land at the campground to start building an original mud track. It will be a small U-shaped mud track with one long mud hole, one deeper mud hole and a table top jump. The mud for the track has been generously donated, says Hingley.

The Aug. 11 event is open to the public with spectators charged $10 per person. Children under 12 get in for free. Gates open at 10:30 a.m. and the event starts at 11 a.m. A canteen will be set up for the day. The event announcer is also a DJ, so there will be some musical entertainment Saturday evening after the event as well, says Hingley. Discounted camping rates for the weekend also apply.

As for any drivers who would like to participate, they can pre-register at [email protected]. Make sure to read rules and regulations, which can be found in the 'about' section of the Facebook Fox Mountain 4x4 Mud Sling Event Page.
