QUEENS COUNTY – Hopefully there will be a lot more people walking in Queens County.
Walking is an excellent form of exercise and, to encourage that, the Region of Queens has officially launched its Queens Walks program.
The program, which started June 21, features a series of community-based walks. The mayor’s walk, led by mayor David Dagley, took place at the Meadow Pond Brook walking trail in Liverpool June 21.
The Queens Walks program will also feature prizes for walkers who attend the events. Residents are encouraged to walk throughout Queens County with family and friends and send photos of their favourite places to walk to the Region of Queens’ Recreation and Healthy Communities Department. This way, others will discover places to go. Photos can be sent by email to [email protected].
Coming up, Queens-Shelburne MLA Kim Masland will lead a lighthouse walk starting at the Port Medway Lighthouse Park in Port Medway at noon on July 6.
More walks are planned throughout Queens County during the program, which runs until July 21, and they will be announced as details are finalized.
