Oct. 4 saw a special meeting of the Bridgewater Police Commission take place to make the appointments of a new Bridgewater police chief and deputy police chief, official.

The Town of Bridgewater made the motion to approve the appointment of acting chief Scott Feener to the position of police chief.

Feener is a graduate of the Ontario Police College and he began his policing career almost 30 years ago with the Toronto Police Service in 1989, where he worked patrol.

He joined Bridgewater Police Service in June of 1993, was promoted to deputy chief in December 2011 and then appointed as the acting chief of police in August 2016.

Following the town council approved motion on new chief appointment, the Bridgewater Police Commission met to approve the appointment acting deputy chief Danny MacPhee to deputy police chief.

MacPhee is a graduate of the Atlantic Police Academy and has 18 years of policing experience as a member of Bridgewater Police Service.

He was named acting deputy chief in April of 2018.

Bridgewater Mayor David Mitchell, a member of the

Bridgewater Police Commission said that it is a rare occasion

that the town would see both top cop roles take effect at the same time.

He also praised both men for their outstanding police work along with both being strong community leaders.

He went on to say that this is a good day for the Bridgewater Police Service and the Town of Bridgewater.

Families of both men were on hand to do the ceremonial rank change as they, the families, as commission chair David Walker indicated, share in the day-to-day support of the job of policing.
