MERSEY POINT – For the third year in a row, the Mersey Point Community Hall will be hosting a plant sale, which board member Chris Greatrex promises will be better than ever this year.

On May 27, from 1 to 3 p.m., the hall will be filled with a variety of perennials, annuals, trees, shrubs and vegetables, mostly dug up from peoples’ gardens and are quite established, says Greatrex. Other gardeners donate any extra vegetable seedlings they have started.

“I’m thinking of adding garden hand tools, etc., that perhaps people have no need for like shovels, rakes, trowels that are in good condition, of course,” he says.

Greatrex says the great thing about this sale is that the prices are considerably lower than nurseries and most plants they sell are potted. Prices vary between $1 to $5. Leftovers not sold go to the Hank Snow Museum for its gardens.

“It’s a win-win arrangement,” says Greatrex.

Funds raised through the event will go to the hall’s kitchen, specifically towards purchasing equipment and accessories.

The group is still looking for donations of plants and/or pots and can be made by contacting Chris Greatrex at 902-356-2313 or can be dropped at the hall at 1150 Shore Road on May 25.
