2018 Barrington Municipal Exhibition runs Aug. 16-19

BARRINGTON, N.S. – Barrington’s Got Talent, the first annual Dash for Cash Mud Run, a 2K/5K fun run and an expanded light horse show are among the new initiatives and events for the 66th annual Barrington Municipal Exhibition that runs Aug. 16 to 19 in Barrington.

There are various categories for different acts and three age groups (ages 5 to 12; 13 to 21; and 22 and over) in the Barrington’s Got Talent contest, set to take the stage Friday night at 5 p.m. Singers, musicians, dancers, magicians…“If you have a talent, we want you,” says the exhibition committee. Entry is free.

Also premiering on Friday at the Big Little Ex is the first annual Dash for Cash Mud Run at 3:45 p.m.

“We’re very excited for this new event,” said Exhibition Committee president Trevor Swaine. The dash for cash is a foot race through the mud pit, with the winner getting $100. There are men’s, women’s, and kid’s categories. Shoes and clothing must be worn during the race, with a reminder there are no showers at the fair grounds.

The exhibition opens on Thursday at noon with 4-H Day, chainsaw carving with Burlin Nickerson, the Jackie Nickerson Memorial Ox Haul, the official opening ceremony, a tug-of-war competition and the second annual Carmen Christie Memorial 4x4 Mud Runs on the day’s schedule. On stage performing throughout the day will be Madisen Atkinson, Kidzact and One Meter Up.

light horse show opens on Friday for the weekend, as well as the midway, which includes a mechanical bull, bouncers and a bungee jumper this year. On stage, Jimmy Moy, Razzmatazz for Kids, hypnotist Ian Stewart and Ghost Town Heroes will be performing during the day and evening. Also on tap is a chainsaw competition at 3 p.m., the 2018 Men’s Queen Pageant and Raymond Harris Memorial Ox Haul, both starting at 7 p.m. and fireworks at 10 p.m.

The Barrington Exhibition Street Parade will get the fun ramped up on Saturday. The parade will begin at the Barrington Municipal Visitor Information Centre at 11 a.m. and end at the exhibition grounds. ATV pulls and mud runs, the Petite Little Miss Barrington Exhibition Pageant, Little Ray’s Reptile Show, the Saunders Brothers Show, and ox hauls including the Irva Cunningham Memorial Ladies Ox Haul and the Brenton “Bud” Doane Memorial Ox Haul are schedule highlights.

On Sunday, the first annual Big Little Ex 2K/5K Fun Run is a go for 9 a.m. Participation certificates and prizes will be handed out, with medals awarded for the top finishers in both male and female categories. Registration begins on site at 8 a.m. To pre-register contact Logan Nickerson at 902-635-0778 to guarantee a participation certificate. Both runs will start and end at the exhibition grounds.

Also on tap Sunday is the Joey Morrison Memorial Washer Tournament, the second annual Billy Jack Hatfield Memorial 4x4 Truck Pulls, the 2018 Little Miss Barrington Exhibition Pageant and an onstage performance by Dave Burbine and Traditional Country.
