SHELBURNE, N.S. – The new $3-million Shelburne primary health clinic in Sandy Point is being officially opened on Tuesday, Feb. 12, with the public invited to tour the facility during an open house from 4-6 p.m.
A full team of primary health care providers are on the Shelburne family practice team at the Shelburne Family Practice Collaborative Health Centre including family physicians Dr. John Keeler, Dr. Trudy McFarlane, Dr. Leanne DeLong and Dr. Ryan Pawsey; nurse practitioners Deana Hickey, Georg MacDonald and Maria Ceschiutti; family practice nurses Ruth Waters and Kyra Taylor, as well as clerical staff.
The team began seeing patients in the new clinic on Feb. 1, after closing their offices in the adjacent Roseway Hospital on Jan. 30 to make the move.
While walk-in clinics are not part of operations at the new health care clinic, several of the providers are still taking new patients, including the new nurse practitioner Maria Ceschiutti, said Fraser Mooney, regional spokesperson for the Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA).
“They are taking patients from the Need a Family Practice database,” Mooney said.
Anyone who doesn’t have a family doctor or nurse practitioner and wants to be considered for the Shelburne family practice, needs to be on the Need a Family Practice provincial registry.
