SYDNEY, N.S. — Cape Breton Regional Police stopped more than 900 vehicles across the Cape Breton Regional Municipality over the Thanksgiving long weekend, resulting in 86 charges.

The effort was part of Operation Impact, a national road safety initiative of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, to reduce injuries and save lives on our roadways.

Between Oct. 11-14, police filed 51 charges for speeding, 21 charges for not wearing a seatbelt, six for using a handheld electronic device while driving and four for impaired driving — including one motorcyclist impaired by drugs — and several other motor vehicle infractions. Two drivers were also found to be driving while their licence was suspended.
