CALEDONIA – On May 8, the Queens County Fair directors are hoping for a big turn out for the third annual ATV Poker Rally.

The poker rally, says Queens County Fair director Carolyn Tufts, is played the same way as a card game. Each hand consists of five cards and the top three hands are the winners. First, two cards are drawn at the time of registration and the next two are drawn at the halfway mark and the last card is drawn back at the hall when they return.

On the day of the rally, there will be a 50/50 draw, door prizes, and a barbecue at the halfway point. Tufts says the trail will be marked and participants merely follow the route of the rally.

The rally is open to anyone who would like to attend, and registration is only $20. Last year, Tufts says, 83 bikes registered, and they are hoping for just as many this year. Pre-registration is not required, and participants can just show up at the Queens County Fair grounds in Caledonia starting at 8:30 a.m.

“We also do a variety supper and it is free will donation,” says Tufts. “The dinner is ready when the people come back from the run, around 5 p.m.”

The money raised is used to help maintain the grounds and buildings and to buy whatever equipment the group needs, as well as for emergency needs that may arise, says Tufts.

Other upcoming events include a breakfast and truck pull on May 12, a spring horse pull on May 19, an ox pull on June 16 and a second poker rally on Sept. 8.

“Poker rallies are a sport and people who own ATV bikes love to get out and go on these types of events to meet old and new friends,” says Tufts. “We always hear good comments or how much fun they have.”
