SYDNEY, N.S. — Parks Canada is updating its park management plan for the Cape Breton Highlands National Park and is asking the public for its assistance.
The plan was last updated in 2010. The first phase in the latest management plan review process is input gathering and asks park users and potential users to complete a 15-minute online survey regarding the vision for the park. As outlined in the survey, the vision will be a "critical component" of the management plan for the park over the next 15-20 years.
It notes healthy ecosystems, meaningful experiences, Mi’kmaq relationship, cultural appreciation, economic opportunities and greening operations and could be refined based on input received from the survey. There’s also a "quick poll" component that simply asks you to identify what best defines the park. Scenery, plants and wildlife, and the Cabot Trail are the options.
