FOREST GLEN, N.S. — Sheila Ferguson was one of many people who were able to find just the right plant as she walked through the poinsettia wonderland at Forest Glen Greenhouses.
The vibrant colours of the plants, beautifully decorated trees and festive lights provided a striking setting for the three-day open house.
“I come every year; I wouldn’t miss it,” said Ferguson, who lives in Valley. “I’m getting a poinsettia for my niece, who’s in the hospital. I chose one that’s very similar to one they gave me a couple of years ago.”
The upper leaves of the plant she bought were white and marbled pink.
Heather Stewart, of Lower Barney’s River, chose plants that had dark markings through some of the red leaves.
“I like them because they’re red but they’re a little different,” she said. “One is a gift for a friend.
“It’s my first time here. I grew up beside Atlantic Nurseries, in Sackville, and I used to see them from the outside. It’s nicer to see them from the inside.”
Melanie Bryden, of Valley, who was also visiting for the first time, bought two traditional red plants chosen by her two-year-old daughter Lydia.
“Last year, my friends showed me pictures and I wanted to come to see the beauty and take pictures,” she said. “When we walked in it was, ‘Wow!’”
Ferguson also took a lot of pictures.
“Coming here fills my heart with joy,” she said. “It starts my Christmas mood and leaves me with a happy feeling.”
