Two Nova Scotia communities landed on a top 25 list of most friendliest cities in the country, according to Big 7 Travel.
Halifax got the silver medal, right behind the winner, Vancouver. Dartmouth won the 14th spot.
The travel site used social media to poll its combined audience of 1.5 million followers. People were asked their impressions of the cities’ port of entries, local reception to tourists, helpful strangers and “general friendliness.”
“Nova Scotia’s City of Lakes, Dartmouth is just across the harbour from Halifax, so there’s a similar buzz yet more of a local feel. The entire place is full of vibrant, forward-looking communities filled with engaged and friendly people,” according to the report on Big 7’s website.
Halifax scored second because “locals here have all the bubbling charm of a major city but with a softer and friendlier attitude. It has a cosmopolitan vibe with a large community of locals and expat residents who make the city welcoming for all,” it states on the website.
“Its large city buzz is boosted with small town vibes from locals, who will welcome you with open arms.”
Other Atlantic Canadian cities on the list include: Fredericton (25), Charlottetown (16), Saint John (15) and St. John’s (9).
