Global music streaming giant Spotify has crunched its 2019 numbers and determined that Nova Scotians can’t get enough of tattooed rapper Post Malone.

The results come as the audio streaming service announces the conclusion of its 2019 Wrapped campaign, analyzing how 248 million subscribers around the world listened to music and podcasts, and turned the data into national and regional profiles.

Malone’s status as the most streamed artist in Nova Scotia in 2019, with his track Wow beating out Lil Nas X’s Old Town Road and his own collab with Swae Lee on the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse track Sunflower, shouldn’t come as a surprise since the Texas-bred rap star was also the most-streamed artist globally this year.

For local listeners, he leads a hip-hop hat trick that includes Eminem in the number two spot, with Canadian superstar Drake at number three. Drake has no reason to be glum though as Spotify’s most streamed artist of the decade, globally and in Canada, with more than 28 billion streams overall.

On the global top three, Malone is followed by Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande, while on the most streamed albums of 2019 list his Hollywood’s Bleeding is sandwiched between the number one pick, Eilish’s When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? and Grande’s number three entry thank u, next.

Grande also scored the most streamed global female artist of the decade slot, followed by Rihanna and Taylor Swift, while Malone’s 21 Savage collab Rockstar was the third most-streamed track of the decade, behind One Dance by Drake, Kyla and WizKid and Ed Sheeran’s Shape of You. Malone did surpass Sheeran as the most streamed male artist globally in 2019 however, with Puerto Rico’s Bad Bunny hopping into third place.

In the realm of podcasts, Spotify revealed that the most-streamed title in Nova Scotia was Barstool Sports’ hockey and pop culture show Spittin Chiclets, followed by My Favourite Murder with Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstack, and the always-informative Stuff You Should Know. Globally, the favourites were The Joe Budden Podcast with Rory & Mall, My Favourite Murder and Germany’s Gemischtes Hack.
