YARMOUTH, N.S. – A small cruise ship that visited Yarmouth in the spring is coming back for a return visit on Oct. 9.
Norway based Hurtigruten Group plans the second visit in six months to Yarmouth & Acadian Shores with their expedition ship MS FRAM.
On Oct. 9, the MS FRAM will be tendering passengers from their anchorage at the mouth of Yarmouth Harbour to the Killam brothers marina in the town of Yarmouth. Expected arrival time is 2 pm AST. After passengers arrive they’ll be transported to the Cape Forchu lightstation where their excursion will include guided tours of the Leif Erikson Park trail and on-site museum. Passengers of the FRAM will also enjoy a culinary experience including local seafood prepared by chef Jonathan Joseph of the Keeper’s Kitchen restaurant located at Cape Forchu.
The Yarmouth and Acadian Shores Tourism Association have been investing in the niche cruise market for two years and is pleased to see growth in the sector. Neil MacKenzie, Executive Director for the Yarmouth & Acadian Shores Tourism Association (YASTA), says the return of the FRAM for a second time is a good sign. “We’re delighted to be hosting the passengers from the MS FRAM once again,” he says. “When they arrived last May our community worked really hard to ensure passengers had a great experience. I believe they enjoyed themselves because they’re here for the second time.”
Around 150 passengers visited Yarmouth the last time the cruise ship came into the port.
Anne Grete Lund Hanssen, Product Consultant Explorer for the Hurtigruten group, is glad to be back.
“We had a great experience last May when we visited Yarmouth for the first time. Our clients felt the location had a lot to offer and enjoyed themselves. We really felt welcome and well taken care of.”
The FRAM will be in port from 2 pm until 7 pm. Passengers will be visiting downtown Yarmouth in the early evening so vendors are encouraged to stay open if possible.
The MS FRAM has pre-booked more dates to visit Yarmouth in 2019 in April, May and October.
