An inaugural business summit aimed at helping micro, small and medium-sized businesses interested in improving the social, community and economic climate on the South Shore is being held on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at the Oak Island Resort and Conference Centre.

Hosted by the Chester Municipal Chamber of Commerce, the Raising Sales Business Summit features a great lineup of speakers, panel discussions and networking opportunities, says chair of the Chester Municipal Chamber of Commerce, Angela Steeves. “We want people to come together to build their networks, cultivate ideas and leave with newly acquired knowledge that will assist them in their day-to-day business life.”

The Raising Sales Business Summit runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., with keynote speaker Ken Rowe of IMP (founded in 1967), who will kick-start the summit with his luncheon presentation, Charting Your Course. Described as Atlantic Canada’s “happy warrior,” Rowe is regarded as one of those rare people who believes that with the right combination of tenacity, perseverance and appetite for risk, anything can be accomplished.

The day’s agenda includes more exciting high-profile guest speakers as well as a panel of local professionals who will discuss: “Tips and Tricks on How to Attract and Retain Your Workforce.”

“We are very excited to have Hugh Mackay, MLA for Chester-St Margaret’s to moderate our panel discussion,” said Steeves. “Talking to local business people, we’ve managed to assemble a terrific list of key topics for our panel to explore including immigration, employing and motivating millennials, hiring an untraditional workforce and where to source staff.”

Later in the day, the doors will open for networking and a trade show where businesses and government entities will showcase their services and products. All the attendees will have the opportunity to connect and engage with each other. This will be followed by a cocktails and canapés happy hour with a live band, offering the ideal time to relax post-Summit at Oak Island Resort with the other participants, and a great opportunity to invite a plus one along to meet newfound contacts.

Early registration is recommended. Net proceeds from the Summit will be used to fund one or more scholarships for business students. “It is our intention that Raising Sales will become a key event on the annual calendar for South Shore business people and grow each year,” said Steeves. The event supports the Chester Municipal Chamber of Commerce vision to provide networking, training and business services not only to their members, but to businesses located or working with businesses, on the South Shore.
