One of their latest games, which was against the Western Valley AA team on Jan. 29, ended with a score of 10-1 for the Warriors.

Scott Shearer, head coach of the West Hants Warriors said the team has had an incredible season so far.

“We are a very strong team, having to pick from 60 kids,” he said. “I think we will win the Nova Scotia championship, even against the Halifax teams. That might jinx us, but, that’s how I feel.”

Playoffs start in soon, with the provincials taking place some time in March.

Shearer said he believes two of the best players in the province are on the team, William Shields and Porter Crowell.

William Shields scored 6 points during the game on Jan. 29.

“Will has a gift,” he said. “If he stays with it and stays interested in it, he’ll go far.”

Crowell stands out for his advanced stickhandling ability, Shearer said.

“He moved here from Western Valley,” he said. “He always gives 110 per cent.”

Shearer says the team has a strong sense of cohesion, with solid bonds of friendship being developed amongst its members.

“They’re always having sleepovers, coming to the rink together the next morning, it’s like one big family,” he said. “Its been a fun year, that’s for sure.”

The West Hants Warriors home ice is the Newport and District Arena in Brooklyn.
