The Shelburne Volunteer Fire Department 3-on-3 Road Hockey Challenge will be held Sunday, April 2 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The street will be closed along Water Street from King Street to John Street to allow for play this day.

If there is bad weather, the event will move indoors at the Shelburne arena.

The deadline for players and teams to register is Friday, March 24, so that organizers can gauge interest and prepare a schedule.

This event is a fundraiser for the Shelburne Volunteer Fire Department. It is the first time a three-on-three street hockey tournament is being planned in Shelburne.

Registration forms can be accessed through the Town of Shelburne’s website. (In the ‘Town Council’ drop down tab click on ‘Other town hall documents’ to access the registration form.) Forms can also be picked up at the front desk of the Shelburne town hall.

The registration cost is $20 per player, which can be paid on site at the tournament. Take note that only cash will be accepted that day.

A minimum of three players is required per team (three playing out and one goalie). Players must provide their own hockey stick and wear hockey gloves.

Players under 18 years of age are also required to wear a hockey helmet with full-face protection such as a cage.

Teams are also require to provide their own goalie gear. Requirements are listed on the registration form.

However, if people have challenges when it comes to supplying gear they can contact the recreation department for possible assistance.

Each team will play a minimum of three games, which will consist of two 20-minute, non-stop time periods.

Categories include youth (ages 13-14), youth (ages 15-17) and adults (ages 18+).

Registration will start at 10 a.m. on April 2 with games starting at 10:30 a.m.

This is not strictly an event for Shelburne area residents, participants are welcome from anywhere.
