GREENFIELD – The Greenfield Dragway will be the place to be on Aug. 11 to see the biggest, the baddest, and the fastest drag cars get it on.

That’s when the Greenfield Dragway will host the first-ever Top Sportsman and Top Dragster Combo Event.

Greenfield Dragway director Jack Johnson says the event is part of its 15th anniversary Bracket Bash event. Normally, this event is held over three days, with Friday night time trials, Saturday time trials and a gamblers race for three classes (junior dragsters, box and no box). Sunday is the regular Nova Scotia Drag Racers Association (NSDRA) points series featuring the Shelburne Stevedores Super Pros, The Cottman Transmission Pros, Ian's Automotive Sportsman, Shore Cycle Bike and Sled and the Pro-Tech Roofing and Construction Junior Dragsters, says Johnson.

“This event on Aug. 11 will be different because this is the first time ever Greenfield Dragway has hosted an event of this type and all entered vehicles must go faster than 5.50 seconds in an eighth of a mile,” says Johnson.

Some fans questioned on Facebook why the event was only using the one-eighth mile mark on a quarter mile track. Johnson says it’s all about safety.

“With potentially some really quick cars, they will need the extra room to get slowed down,” he says.

Besides, as another fan pointed out, it’s better for spectators to see it all as well.

Johnson says the event will be great family entertainment. The Greenfield Dragway operates under a very strict no alcohol policy and anyone coming to the races will have the chance to walk the pits and get up close to the cars and drivers competing.

“We also offer classes for anyone from the age of eight and up, so there’s always something for everyone,” says Johnson.

Tickets will be available at the gate on race day, $10 per day for an adult and children 12 and under are free when accompanied by an adult.

The Greenfield Dragway, located at South Shore Regional Airport, provides drag racing events from May to October under the mandate of promoting a safe competition facility and help keep racing off the streets. The NSDRA is operated by a group of automotive enthusiasts.
