MIDDLETON - There was a stolen ambulance, car crashes, theft of copper, and a piglet on the loose. Annapolis District RCMP kept busy with numerous other calls including assaults and drug-related incidents between Nov. 20 and Nov. 27. They answered 113 calls.
Following are some of the highlights:

-- Nov. 20 at 12:20 a.m. at Middleton. Police were called to a report of an assault. A 21-year-old man was arrested and taken into custody and charged with assault and failing to comply with an undertaking. He will appear in court at a later date.
-- Nov. 20 at 2:11 p.m. at Upper Granville. Police charged a 65-year-old man with speeding on Highway 1. If found guilty, the driver will pay a fine of $237.50. An additional 30 motorists were either warned about, or charged with, speeding violations during the week in Annapolis County.
-- Nov. 20 at 6:30 p.m. at Wilmot. Police were called to a 911 single-vehicle roll over. Police went to the scene. There were no injuries. Photographs and statements were obtained.
-- Nov. 20 at 6:38 p.m. at Middleton. Police responded to a 911 single-vehicle crash. The caller reported a car in the ditch at Exit 18A at Middleton and that the driver and her son were now in his vehicle on the side of the road. There were no injuries. There was minor damage to the vehicle but it was the woman was not able to rive it due to a flat tire.
-- Nov. 22 at 5:50 p.m. at Carleton Corner. Police were called to a traffic hazard. A small piglet was running on Highway 201 back and forth across the road. Police located the piglet that indeed ran in front of the cruiser but escaped. Residents in the area attempted to lure the animal with apples but were unsuccessful.
-- Nov. 23 at 9:44 a.m. at Middleton. Police received a complaint of the theft of two license plates. The information has been added to the Canada Police Information Centre database. Police will be on the lookout for those plates.
-- Nov. 23 at 7:03 p.m. at Carleton Corner. Police were called to a crash in which a car hit a deer. There were no injuries to people but there was debris and antifreeze all over the road.
-- Nov. 23 at 10:15 p.m. at Middleton. Police were called to a complaint of a possible impaired driver. Police went to the area and learned that a vehicle attempted to drive in the alley beside the Subway and struck the wall. Police have obtained a vehicle license plate and description.
-- Nov. 24 at 1:04 a.m. at Middleton. Police received a complaint of a theft of an ambulance. An ambulance was forcibly hijacked by a patient, police were told. RCMP were able to intercept the stolen ambulance that has been successfully pulled over by the crew of another ambulance. Upon police arrival EHS staff had the suspect in custody. Police arrested and charged a 45-year-old man with robbery, assault, impaired (by drug) operation of a motor vehicle, and theft of a motor vehicle. He was remanded into custody and will appear in court at a later date.
-- Nov. 25 at 2:15 p.m. at Paradise. Police have charged a 32-year-old man under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. The man has been charged with possession and production, and is also charged with unauthorized possession of a fire arm. He will attend court at a later date.
-- Nov. 25 at 3:11 p.m. at Margaretsville. Police received a 911 report of a dog in distress and gunshots. The caller was able to hear a dog barking for the last couple of hours and believed the animal may have been caught in a trap behind their house. Police went to the scene and learned that it had been a coyote in a trap. The animal was subsequently dispatched.
-- Nov. 26 at 9:28 a.m. at West Dalhousie. Police received a complaint of a theft of a motor vehicle sometime overnight. The vehicle was later located in a ditch on Morse Road. The theft is under investigation.
-- Nov. 26 at 5:55 p.m. at Wilmot. Police were called to a 911 single-vehicle crash in which the vhicle missed a turn on slippery roads. The driver was the loan occupant in the vehicle. The airbags deployed. He was taken to the hospital for observation.
-- Nov. 27 at 11:12 a.m. at Margaretsville. Police were called to a complaint of theft of copper wire from a rock crushing operation. The caller reported that someone had broken the lock on a construction site and stole the copper. Damage to equipment, production loss, and repair could total as much as $20,000. The file continues to be under investigation.
-- Nov. 27 at 1 p.m. at Highway 201 in Annapolis Royal. A person went to the detachment and reported an accident that had happened that morning. She had been travelling west on Highway 201 and hit black ice and ended up in the ditch on the opposite side of the road. She was reporting it for insurance purposes.
-- Nov. 27 at 3:59 p.m. at Bridgetown. Police responded to a traffic collision involving two vehicles on Granville Street. One vehicle sideswiped another vehicle that was pulling out of a parking spot.
