LIVERPOOL Anyone interested in curling this winter can head to the Liverpool Curling Club to register Oct. 11, 12, 18 and 19.
Registration is scheduled to happen from about 7-9 p.m. on all four dates, said Jennifer Chase, membership and advertising chairperson. At those times, people can get their memberships and register for the nights they want to curl.
On Mondays, there will be learn-to-curl sessions from about 7:30-9 p.m.; on Tuesdays, there will be doubles curling from 7-9 p.m.; Wednesdays will be ladies’ nights from 7-9 p.m.; Thursdays is league night from 7-9 p.m.; and Fridays will be a social night from 7-9:30 p.m.
On ladies’ night, there will be other things happening in the club room for those not interested in curling, said Chase. On social night, even non-members can come in to curl and pay a $10 drop-in fee.
Non-members can take the learn-to-curl program, and if they decide to join, the $50 registration cost would be deduced from the membership fee.
Open house
The Liverpool Curling Club had an open house and fundraising event Sept. 23.
“It was a smaller crowd, but we raised around $3,000,” said Chase.
That money will go into a fund to replace the club’s roof this summer.
As far as more fundraising goes, Chase said the club is hoping to host some paint nights and maybe have an online auction.
Club volunteers were also at the Queens County Fair, where Chase said they spoke with a lot of parents interested in registering their children. They also spoke with some former curlers interested in getting back into the sport.
The curling season is set to start the last week of October.
