Stages set for 33rd Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival

Music will be in the air throughout the town of Lunenburg from Aug. 9 to 12 when the historic South Shore seaport hosts the 33rd annual Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival.

Named the 2018 Event of the Year by East Coast Music Awards (ECMA), this year’s festival includes a full schedule of dance, music and vocal workshops, the Folk Steps music conference, songwriters’ circles, a kitchen party and an afternoon and evening performances over the four days at venues throughout the town. More than 24, world-renowned acts of classical and contemporary folk music such as Martha Wainwright, Madison Violet, The Outside Track, Fred Eaglesmith, John Gorka, Eliza Gilkyson and The Ennis Sisters are set to grace the stages of the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival.

St. John’s Parish Hall, the Lunenburg School of the Arts, St. John’s Anglican Church, Central United Church, Zion Lutheran Church, the Fisheries Museum Wharf and the Lunenburg Heritage Society Bandstand are the venues used for the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival, in addition to the main stage, which is located on the top of Blockhouse Hill, offering panoramic views of the front and back harbours.

Main stage performances are scheduled each night of the festival starting at 7 p.m. On Thursday night (Aug. 9), Caribou Run, Kim Harris, Ced Marty & Dave, Ruthie Foster, Old Man Luedecke and Martha Wainwright will be taking to the stage.

On tap for Friday night (Aug. 10) are Earle & Coffin, The Sweet Lowdown, Matthew Byrne, Robert & Bernice Jones, John Gorka and Madison Violet.

The Lumber Jills, Dans l’Shed, Lucy Kaplansky, Les Chauffeurs à Pieds, Eliza Gilkyson and The Outside Track are Saturday night’s headliners (Aug. 11).

With 19 groups and performers on the schedule, the Sunday morning gospel concert on the main stage is sure to stir the soul. Robert and Bernice Jones, Kat Danser, Ced Marty & Dave, Doris Mason, Earle & Coffin, Eliza Gilkyson, Ian Sherwood, Jeff Davis, John Gorka, Kim Harris, Les Chauffeurs à Pieds, Lucy Kaplansky, Madison Violet, Matthew Byrne, The Ennis Sisters, The Lumber Jills, The Outside Track, The Small Glories and The Sweet Lowdown are slated to perform beginning at 10 a.m.

The final main stage concert on Sunday night will feature Jeff Davis, Kat Danser, Ian Sherwood, The Small Glories, The Ennis Sisters and Fred Eaglesmith.
