The Region of Queens council gave notice of its intention to amend the Municipal Planning Strategy (MPS) and Land Use Bylaw (LUB) to change the zoning of the core area of Caledonia from general residential (R2) to highway commercial (C2) at the Sept. 12 council meeting.
Potential zoning changes for this area – known locally as Caledonia Corner – have already been previously by council. Before the implementation of the Regional Planning Documents in 2009, the area was the subject of much discussion regarding appropriate zoning. At the time, residential zoning was deemed most appropriate. At the time, it was decided that new commercial uses would be considered through rezoning on a case-by-case basis.
Since then, there has been renewed interest in the business district, and the current council has a desire to simplify the development process in the hopes of encouraging new businesses and stimulating the local economy.
A public hearing is scheduled to take place at 7 p.m. at the North Queens Business Centre and Innovation Hub at 9793 Highway 8 in Caledonia on Oct. 5. The public is welcome to attend and provide its insight into the planned change.
Those unable to attend may provide written information to the planning department via email [email protected] or mail to Planning Department, Region of Queens Municipality, P.O. Box 1264, Liverpool, N.S., B0T 1K0.
Public hearing planned for Caledonia zoning changes
A section of Caledonia that has previously been discussed may be rezoned to allow for more commercial development.
