LIVERPOOL – On Feb. 17, nine teams came together at the Liverpool Curling Club to raise over $6,100 for the Curl for Cancer event.
“Having set a goal of $6,000, we were very pleased to reach and slightly surpass that goal,” says Meghan MacAdams, curling event organizer from the Canadian Cancer Society.
Although the fundraiser was competing with the long weekend, MacAdams says the event was still deemed a huge success. The number of participants was down from last year, but she says spirits were high and everyone enjoyed themselves. A lot of people from the community dropped in to watch the curling, have a bite to eat, and purchase tickets for the raffle table and 50/50 draw.
MacAdams says the event was a lot of fun. One team wore personalized, bright green shirts and called themselves "The Sheet-Heads". A junior team wore bright orange shirts and called themselves "The Misfits". Our top two fundraising teams brought in over $1000, both of whom curled on the junior team.
“Kolby Thompson raised $640 and Calley Conrad raised $400,” says MacAdams.
Plans are already in place for the Curl for Cancer 2019 event. Liverpool is hosting the World Junior Curling championships mid February, so organizers are aiming to hold the Curl on the first weekend of February. Save the date!
