LIVERPOOL - The Liverpool International Theatre Festival (LITF) will once again welcome the world to its 14th biennial festival.
However, in 2018, the festival will be held in the fall rather than the spring. The long-standing festival is scheduled to take place from Oct. 18-21, rather than on the Victoria Day weekend.
“When we look at our festival and the number of local people attending, we have had to compete with the May long weekend as being the start of camping season and cottage-opening season,” explained Jean Robinson-Dexter, festival chairperson.
“Many people who would otherwise support the festival are enjoying that symbolic start of the season. Moving to the fall may just bring (in) those families, who’ve wanted to be part of the festival experience. We’ll also continue to focus on drawing theatre lovers from around the region to our community.”
The festival will maintain its format of presenting one-act plays, workshops and entertaining networking opportunities, and are inviting applications from amateur theatre troupes from throughout the world to come to Liverpool.
“Because we’re one of the most recognized festivals in the world, we’re looking forward to receiving many high-caliber applications,” explained Annette Burke, vice-chairperson.
The festival’s executive committee will soon be announcing an innovative and fun fundraiser for the festival, set to be held in late January, as well as a volunteer recruitment evening for anyone interested in becoming involved in the festival.
The festival was founded in 1990 with the express purpose of organizing a competitive amateur theatre festival every two years and to draw visitors to Queens County outside the summer season. The LITF is considered one of the top 10 amateur theatre festivals in the world.
