RCMP have arrested a 34-year-old man after a brief standoff with police today, Feb. 8 in the Bear River East / Clementsvale area.

BEAR RIVER EAST, NS – A 34-year-old man has surrendered to police after a brief standoff today, Feb. 8 in the Bear River East / Clementsvale area.

Police were responding to a call and as a result of that had to close off the area.

“The person has been arrested and taken into custody, without incident,” said Annapolis District RCMP Const. David Fairfax. The man surrendered to police at about 2 p.m.

Fairfax said several homes in the area were evacuated as a precaution. Fairfax said the incident happened in the Jefferson Road and Fed Road area.

The man was being taken to cells in Digby. Fairfax said he expects the man will face weapons-related charges.

Fairfax said no RCMP members or members of the public were injured during the incident.
