People aren’t the only faces Liverpool’s Home Hardware sees.
Signs on the doors upstairs and downstairs make it clear people and pets can shop at the Main Street business. The staff also passes out treats – sometimes even going outside to do so, said Melonie Ingersoll, owner of the store.
Ingersoll said Home Hardware staff sees pets – mostly dogs – in the store daily.
“It’s not restricted to dogs either. People bring cats in (and) birds have come in,” said Ingersoll.
One frequent furry friend Ingersoll sees a couple of times a week needs some coaxing to get out of the car.
“We have to go outside with the treats to lure him out of the car,” said Ingersoll.
Then there’s the opposite - a dog that visits Home Hardware regularly isn’t always so keen to leave and has to be lured out with treats.
“He digs down and doesn’t want to go,” said Ingersoll.
Not all pets have the same taste in treats. For the animals not so enthusiastic about one type of treat, Ingersoll said there are other options behind the counter. Then are the other pets that take their treats in a bag to go.
If pet owners and pets need more than a few treats, there’s a pet section in the downstairs section of the store. The section has food, toys, collars and leashes, and other pet supplies.
