Queens County is full of individuals that have the responsibility for caring for a parent or loved one each and every day. Although it is rewarding, this task can become overwhelming and detrimental to the caregiver’s health. Often being left with little time to take care of themselves, these individuals experience burnout. Eventually, this results in increased stress and a decline in the mental and physical well-being of the caregiver. In order to avoid this, caregivers must seek respite services.

The Queens County Adult Day Program was established in 2006 as a support service for seniors living within the community. The program is dedicated to Queens County residents who are experiencing challenges associated with the aging process or are in need of mental or physical stimulation. In addition, the program offers support and respite for caregivers enabling these individuals to carry out their various roles within their family and community.

The program takes place in a safe and homelike setting as well as provides meaningful social and recreational activities which focus on participants’ interests, needs and abilities. Potential activities include, but are not limited to; bingo, baking, lexicon, music, word puzzles, exercises, gardening, cards, bowling, bus outings, etc.

The program is hosted at Queens Manor on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays and runs from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Transportation available.

For more information on costs and other inquiries, please contact the adult day program co-ordinator Michelle Doubleday by calling 902-354-3451 ext.7 or by emailing [email protected].
