Brigadoon Village and the IWK Neurosurgery Kids Fund are launching the first neurosurgical summer camp in Atlantic Canada.

The neurosurgery camp will provide an environment where children and youth who are living with a neurosurgery condition can connect with others who face similar life experiences and learn healthy coping skills while engaging in camp activities.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have our first neurosurgery summer camp come to fruition,” said Dr. Simon Walling and Dr. Daniel McNeely from the IWK’s Neurosurgery Kids Fund. “Our patients are some of the most fun-loving kids that you could ever meet. We are so happy to give them the opportunity to explore and grow through the Brigadoon camp opportunity.”

Running weekly from July 1 until Aug. 31, Brigadoon Village provides children living with health conditions and other life challenges the opportunity to meet other children who share similar life experiences in a fun, safe and medically friendly environment.

“The summer of 2018 will be Brigadoon’s eighth summer of programming and each year we are seeing growth in the number of children we serve in Atlantic Canada,” said David Graham, Brigadoon Village’s executive director. “Brigadoon’s growth over the last eight years demonstrates the need for our camp programs and the love these children have for Brigadoon. We are so grateful that Dr. Walling and Dr. McNeely have decided to partner with us to provide meaningful connections and exceptional fun to children and youth affected by brain or spinal surgery.”

The official name for this summer camp program will be chosen by the children and youth who attend its first session. This camp program will run from July 1 to 6.

Brigadoon Village is a year-round, non-profit recreational facility on Aylesford Lake in the Annapolis Valley. With their partners, they deliver camp programming to children, youth and families living with health conditions or other life challenges, hosting campers from the Atlantic region and across Canada.
