Andrew Bursey, currently the general manager of Dixie Lee Family Restaurant, has agreed to step into the role. He will manage the facility and be responsible for overseeing the Astor’s daily operations and administration.
In addition, Jon Paterson of Vancouver B.C. has been chosen by the Astor Theatre Society’s Board of Directors to fill the role of both artistic and technical director, says a news release from the board.
Born and raised in Liverpool, Bursey cut his teeth on the Astor stage, says the release. He performed in the Winds of Change’s production of Evita and Camelot.
As a teenager, Bursey was invited to attend Victoria High School for the Perforing and Visual Arts in Edmonton, Alberta. He went on to attend the prestigious Theatre Arts Program at Grant MacEwan University in Edmonton.
After he graduated, he co-founded the production company “RibbitRePublic” with Paterson and other members of his graduating class. The group produced several critically acclaimed, award winning shows, and toured extensively, including an appearance at the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival.
A personal highlight for Bursey and Paterson was singing the Canadian and American National anthems at the 2006 Toronto Blue Jays home opener vs. the Boston Red Sox.
In 2012, Bursey returned to Liverpool to re-open Dixie Lee Family Restaurant with his parents David and Diane Bursey. It will be business as usual at Dixie Lee after Bursey’s transition to the Astor, says the release.
Paterson has also had a long career in stage and theatre. He currently lives in Vancouver, where he is the technical director of Monster Theatre and lighting designer for Vancouver Theatre Sports.
The new change in management will not affect the current schedule of movies and live events on the Astor’s calendar. All scheduled events will proceed as planned.
