Female passenger of vehicle dies following two-vehicle collision on Highway 103 in Yarmouth County

BELLEVILLE, YARMOUTH COUNTY, N.S. – A 67-year-old female passenger in a vehicle travelling on Highway 103 on Wednesday, Aug. 15, has died following a two-vehicle collision on the highway.

An RCMP media release says the collision occurred on the highway at the intersection of the Eel Lake Road around 4:15 p.m. The occupants of both vehicles were transported to hospital by EHS with serious injuries. The RCMP say the Middle West Pubnico woman, a passenger in a 2012 Honda Civic, was transported by EHS to hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

The driver of the car, a 68-year-old man of Middle West Pubnico, was transported by EHS to hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, a 45-year-old man from Meteghan River, was transported by EHS to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A passenger in the truck, a 41-year-old woman of Meteghan River, was transported by EHS to hospital with serious injuries.

Traffic was detoured following the collision. Highway 103 was closed from Exit 33 in Tusket (north west of accident) and the Argyle Head Rd, which was southeast of accident. 

The collision is under investigation. An accident re-construction analyst was called to the scene to investigate and collect evidence. That work took several hours.

In addition to the police, EHS, and the Department of Transportation, several local fire departments attended at the scene, including Yarmouth, Eel Brook and Lake Vaughan.
