This Friday, Aug. 17, the Chester Heritage Society is hosting a unique event that will feature internationally renowned artist Raymond Chow in a one-of-a-kind fundraiser.
Lordly Park Paint-Off and Afternoon Tea will run from noon to 2 p.m. and will be held at the Lordly Park gazebo.
Speaking on behalf of event organizers, Chester Heritage Society treasurer James W. Isaacs explains Paint-Off will feature renowned painters who reside in Nova Scotia.
Chow of Pleasantville, Lunenburg County, will compete against historical painter Wesley Lowe of Bridgewater. Chester Race Week yacht race painter Beverly Hubley of Halifax faces off against Chester’s own still-life painter Pat Christensen.
Explaining how the event works, Isaacs says painters will be allotted the same amount of time to paint selected object(s). There will be a slight intermission for painters to speak with onlookers who have come to view this unique event. After the intermission, painters will complete their works, which will be auctioned off at the end.
Following the Paint-Off, afternoon tea with Chow runs from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lordly House Museum, located at 133 Central St. The Chester Heritage Society is well known in the area for their afternoon teas, hosts this portion of the afternoon. There is an $8 entrance fee.
“During the tea, Raymond Chow will graciously present for your viewing pleasure, pieces from the White Gown series, the Lisa series and a pen-and-ink series of the Chester area and buildings,” Isaacs says.
Chow will also tell stories and answer questions regarding his works and life’s experiences making this intimate event a must-see while visiting Chester Village this summer.
Isaacs says a portion of both auction proceeds and any artworks purchased at the tea will be donated to the Chester Heritage Society to further the hosting and holding of events promoting the arts in the future, and to help maintain and operate the Chester Train Station and Lordly Park.
