LIVERPOOL – Are you looking for a chance to give back to the Liverpool school community and support post-secondary scholars? Then, come out to the 20th annual Liverpool Regional High School Scholarship Auction.
Planning is already well underway for the event, which will be held on May 31 at 6 p.m.
Claudine LeBlanc, a French immersion teacher at the school, and co-chairwoman of the auction committee, says all funds raised are given out in the form of scholarships to deserving graduates.
Scholarships are awarded, says LeBlanc, to students in good standing, who are going to a post-secondary institution and have worked hard to make the auction a success. Selection is made by the schools’ scholarship committee.
“Last year, we gave out 25 scholarships of $1,000 each,” she says.
This year, because it will mark the 20th year of the fundraiser, LeBlanc says the committee is hoping to raise over $30,000. This will surpass last year’s total of $27,000.
This event was started 20 years ago by Sharilyn Conrad, the former vice-principal of Liverpool Regional High School. Since then, it’s been run each year by staff, parents and students. To help with the auction, students must actively go out and get donations of services, goods or money from community businesses.
Students are out seeking donations now, and anyone wishing to contribute can contact LeBlanc directly at the school.
“The event has become a Liverpool Regional High School tradition which is one of the highlights of the year for graduating students,” says LeBlanc. “It’s an exciting evening to hear the bids and finally the total amount of money raised.”
