CALEDONIA - Sitting down to share a meal is often a Christmas favourite for many people, and the students at North Queens Community School had the opportunity to experience that for the first time recently.
On Dec. 19, the first-ever dinner for the entire school was held, serving up some Christmas cooking during lunchtime.
“Our goal was to provide a turkey dinner for students, staff and some special guests,” said Jennifer Spencer-Weare, principal of North Queens Community School.
Between 250 and 275 people ate together in the gym.

A team of staff planned the dinner, and a number of students helped with the dinner preparations and cleanup.
“We asked parents and community volunteers to help scoop the food and serve,” said Spencer-Weare.
There were about 25 or 30 volunteers who turned up to help out.
Spencer-Weare said there would be some small changes next year, but she said the school would like to continue the tradition by having the dinner annually.
“It was a huge success,” she said.
